Matthew X. Fissinger

Matt Fissinger has led the Office of Undergraduate Admission at Loyola Marymount University since 1990. Prior to coming to LMU, he worked for 14 years in various capacities on the Admission staff at his alma mater, Boston College.

In addition to his responsibilities in admission, which include managing the recruitment of prospective students, application the evaluation and admission decisions for undergraduate applicants, he is a member of the Enrollment Management Leadership team at LMU, with involvement in the development and implementation of strategic financial aid packaging, new student Orientation, and in efforts to optimize retention.

Matt is an active member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and the Conference of Jesuit Admission Directors (CJAD). He is a frequent presenter on a variety of admission related topics both at professional meetings and at local school and community programs. One of his favorite presentations on the national stage came when he participated in a panel at the 2007 NACAC conference in Austin, Texas, on the experience of parents going through the college admission process with their children.

He strives to help demystify and de-stress the admission process for prospective students. His essay, “Students, You are Important, and You Can Take Control” is published in Lloyd Thacker’s 2004 College Unranked, and he frequently speaks on this topic to parents and students. In conjunction with LMU’s Equity Scorecard project and as a member of the project’s writing team, he has written and presented on LMU’s work in the areas of diversity, access and equity.  And in his spare time one might find him pumping out power chords on his Telecaster in LMU’s Pep Band.

He received his undergraduate degree in Political Science and master’s in Higher Education Administration from Boston College.
